A PDF is not an e-invoice

Seit 2025 gilt in Deutschland: Eine E-Rechnung ist ein strukturierter Datensatz nach der europäischen Norm EN 16931 — XML, das Software automatisch lesen und verbuchen kann. Ein normales PDF, auch ein schön gestaltetes, zählt rechtlich nur noch als „sonstige Rechnung“.

Since 2025, German law defines an e-invoice as a structured data record per the European standard EN 16931 — XML that software can read and book automatically. A regular PDF, however pretty, now legally counts only as an "other invoice".

ZUGFeRD 2.3

ZUGFeRD ist ein Hybridformat: ein PDF/A-3, in das das EN-16931-XML eingebettet ist. Menschen sehen eine normale Rechnung, Maschinen lesen das XML. Für B2B-Rechnungen in Deutschland ist das im Profil EN 16931 der praktischste Weg — genau das erzeugt Rechify für jede Rechnung.

ZUGFeRD is a hybrid format: a PDF/A-3 with the EN 16931 XML embedded inside. Humans see a normal invoice; machines read the XML. For B2B invoices in Germany, the EN 16931 profile is the most practical route — exactly what Rechify produces for every invoice.

XRechnung 3.x

XRechnung ist reines XML ohne PDF-Hülle — der Standard, den öffentliche Auftraggeber in Deutschland verlangen (Bund seit 2020, mit Leitweg-ID). Verkaufen Sie an Behörden, Schulen oder Kommunen, brauchen Sie dieses Format. Rechify erzeugt für jede Rechnung auf Wunsch auch die XRechnung-Datei zum Download.

XRechnung is pure XML with no PDF wrapper — the standard German public-sector buyers require (federal level since 2020, with a Leitweg-ID). If you sell to authorities, schools, or municipalities, you need this format. Rechify can produce the XRechnung file for any invoice as a download.

• Vor dem Versand geprüft: jedes XML läuft gegen die offiziellen EN-16931-Geschäftsregeln (die gleichen Prüfregeln, die Validatoren der Verwaltung nutzen). Was nicht besteht, geht nicht raus.
• Validated before sending: every XML runs against the official EN 16931 business rules (the same rule set public-sector validators use). What fails does not ship.
• XRechnung 3.x pro Rechnung als Download für öffentliche Auftraggeber.
• XRechnung 3.x per invoice as a download for public-sector buyers.
• Storno & Gutschrift im selben konformen Format, mit eigenem lückenlosem Nummernkreis.
• Credit notes in the same compliant format, with their own gapless number sequence.

Ehrlich: was Rechify (noch) nicht macht

Honestly: what Rechify does not (yet) do

• Die Übermittlung an Portale (ZRE/OZG-RE, Peppol) ist in v1 Ihr manueller Schritt: Datei herunterladen, im Portal einreichen. Das steht hier so klar, weil es andere gern verschweigen.
• Submission to portals (ZRE/OZG-RE, Peppol) is your manual step in v1: download the file, upload it in the portal. We say this plainly because others tend not to.
• Ein Empfangs-Postfach für eingehende E-Rechnungen ist geplant, aber noch nicht da.
• A receiving inbox for inbound e-invoices is planned but not there yet.
• Frankreichs Factur-X-Pflicht (2026/2027) ist auf der Roadmap.
